| I returned from the South on Thursday night and spent yesterday "working from home". I really had to recouperate from a long ass day (14 day to be exact). I wanted to continue my commentary on the South with some new pictures. I decided to get some down home southern food on my last day and went to a place called "Parker's BBQ." I asked for the large BBQ plate and this is the mess I got:
The stuff on the right is a big ol' plate of pulled pork. On the left, there is cole slaw (I know, it's yellow and weird looking), hush puppies, and a corn stick. So, I ate it. It wasn't bad really. I had a delicious sweet tea (also pictured) that made lunch an OK experience.
I was very successful on my trip and this VP said I should treat myself to this priemere steak house in Raleigh. It was called the Angus Barn:
Yes! It's a barn! This place was so busy they wouldn't seat me without a reservation. I ended up upstairs in their lounge area, which was very nice. Thanks company for a $50 filet mignon dinner!
And for dessert, here is a picture of some jesus lady I took a picture of at the airport. Her shirt says, "Be Not Afraid." PRAISE THE LORD!!!

| Yes, it's Mr. K. What is new with Him who shall only be known by the first initial of His last name (praise be He). I'm in North Carolina on business. I'll be going back home tomorrow night and giving my two weeks notice on Thursday. Yes, I'm all set with my new jarb (it's all very exciting!). So what have I been doing while in NC? Going to Chinese Buffets! I have the corporate credit card and could pretty much get whatever I want to eat, but if you know anything about Mr. K you know that He loves Chinese Buffets. I am so far not impressed. Here is a pic of the buffet:

| What is going on in this picture and why did it piss me off?
I went to get my monthly allergy shots yesterday. Seldom are there more than one or two people in the waiting room. For some reason, the waiting room was flooded with people. All chairs were taken so two Moms with their kids sat on the floor. They proceeded to annoy the hell out of me.
Mom 1:
Mom 1 is a good Mom. Her two little girls read quietly while she practiced reading with her son in her lap. The son was very annoying. He didn't know how to read quietly, so I had to listen to "THE CAT HAS A BALL. THE CAT HAS A BALL" for 20 minutes.
Mom 2:
Mom 2 needs a pimp slap. She was obviously very irritated with her two kids. She wasn't being nice to either one of them, but especially her son who she was "helping" with his homework. By "helping" I mean doing most of it for him while he bitched about how he didn't want to do it. She was yelling loudly and nagging the hell out of him. I wanted to give her a valium.
I never want children. There, I said it.

| I read two interesting articles today about controlled substances. This article is about a plant called Salvia that has hallucinogenic properties. States around the country are thinking about banning the substance out of fears of abuse by teens. This article is about Absinthe and how it is trying to be popularized in the United States after the ban had been lifted last year.
What do they have in common? After reading both articles, I am reminded of the folly of banning substances. We ban substances that we believe are harmful, but by that logic alcohol should be illegal too. Anyway, Salvia may be banned because a few teens are doing it (really, I think it's more popular with the aging hippie crowd). I think if they were really concerned with teen drug use they should be tackling pharmaceutical drug abuse which is more dangerous and prevalent. In fact, many teens don't think there's anything wrong with raiding Mom and Dad's medicine cabinet.
It turns out absinthe was banned due to an orchestrated propaganda campaign by the Wine industry. How sad is that? My guess is that something similar happened to Cannabis. After all, hemp is a cheaper alternative to many other agricultural products. Money talks. So it goes.

| The bad news:
I got a nice letter in the mail from the company I interviewed at a few weeks ago saying that while I was a very impressive candidate, I didn't get the jarb. Bummer.
The good news:
I have an excellent opportunity to be a government contractor. The jarb is in Baltimore and while the commute will eat my soul, "no guts no glory" as they say. This jarb will put me on the path I want, so I'm very excited. I also have another company in Rockville that's interested. I love having options!
The best news:
I'm going on vacation! This Saturday I will be departing for a 7 day cruise to Central America and the Bahamas. Yay! :)

| There's this Chinese food place by work. The only reason to go to this place is for their buffet. It's $6.25 for all you can eat. The selection isn't great, but what's there is quality and the price is right. We go there today and no more buffet. They are expanding their sushi bar. Their sushi blows. How is this a good idea? On a side note, I saw some queen from the Green Lantern there once. How random and awkward is that?

| Here's some random rant.
This weekend was a real mixed bag. Good things:
1. Went to the Cornelius show with two buddies at the 9:30 Club. Holy smokes! It was amazing. If you like Japanese electro rock performance art this is for you! We saw them in May at Sonar in Baltimore and it was an incredible show. Check out the Cornelius Synchronized Sensuous Tour on Youtube. They don't speak a lick of English, but the electro rock art performance they put together transcends language barriers.
2. I played this awesome video game, Mass Effect. I love sci-fi and this has been very satisfying so far. The graphics are excellent and the sci-fi world they have created is very unique. The game play is kinda like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, but less chatty.
3. I ate the best French Dip ever last night.
Bad things:
1. I'm still sick. Not real bad, but annoying sick.
2. I'm getting very fatigued with this job business. Still haven't heard back from my current employer about that job. They have historically taken forever in responding, so this isn't a surprise. I was offered a position elsewhere but had to turn it down, so that was a bummer. I have something coming down the pipe, so I'm trying to keep my head up but damn...I'm ready for it to be over already!

| I love my new user pics. That's my dog. He's awesome.
I don't know about everyone else, but I am very concerned about our economy. The global markets have been tanking and even though the fed cut 3/4 point from the prime rate, the DOW and other markets are still dropping. The one thing Bush had to stand on was his claim that the economy is strong. I didn't really completely believe that to begin with. The adminisitration has no credibility whatsoever. I also don't know what to think about their economic stimulus package. I asked around the office to get an idea of what people are going to do with the $800. Most people I talked to are going to either save it or put it toward credit card debt. I think I'm going to buy a nice phone and then put the rest toward my mountains of debt. This plan's success really hinges on the public spending that $800 on consumer goods. I think many families across the country are strapped for cash, so this money will probably go toward medical bils, utilities, gas, food, etc. I mean, I still want a new phone so I'm not going to argue if Uncle Sam hands me a wad of cash. I just don't know if this is really going to have the intended effect.
One other note. Has anyone else noticed that things just suddenly got expensive as shit? Everything has gone up in price...something is amiss.

| I had something interesting happen at work. About 2 months back I went for a new job here. They were impressed and made me an offer. The offer was below market, so I had to decline. I let them know that I did want the job, but the amount of work I would have to put in was just not worth it. I felt it was time for my experience to translate into dollars. They understood and we parted amicably. A few day ago I get a call from the manager, "Let me run a hypothetical by you. If we can get you the money you want, would you take the job?" I thought about it over the weekend and decided I will take the position if they can gimme dat loot. I'll know by next week. Whoa...

RANT!
I went to Starbucks with my work colleagues to get some coffee and such. I got a grande coffee Frappacino. I'm back at the office now. I sat down and took a few sips..."What the hell is wrong with this thing?" I'm about half way through drinking it and I realize two problems:
1. The ice cubes used to make this thing have probably been sitting around for months.
2. Whatever coffee "syrup" or liquid they put in here is part rat poison.
THE SILVER LINING
It was free! How? Before I left, the receptionist asked where I was going. I told her Starbucks and then she pulls a gift certificate out from her purse, "Here baby, this if for you" she says. She has a whole bunch of gift certificates but she hates Starbucks and wanted to give them to people who would enjoy them. There was $20 on it. Score!

| I haven't updated in forever, but I'm so fucking aggravated today that I need a place to vent. Horrible things that have happened to me today:
1. Piddly snow showers caused DC area roads to lock up like a vise. It took me 2 hours to get to work.
2. Before leaving for work I slammed my head on the corner of a mounted crate. I have a big bruise on my head.
3. I didn't get a job I was really hoping to get after going through 2 interviews leaving me with feelings of anger, depression, and loathing.
4. I blew out a tire last night and took it to the shop by work to have it looked at. They tell me the tire is fucked and needs to be replaced ($250). I called the VW dealership to make an appointment to see if they'll fix it for free (as my car doesn't have even 6,000 miles on it) and they can't even look at it til Friday.
What the fuck? What the fuck? I think that sums it up. When I go home tonight, I'm going to drink some vodka...

| I interviewed with GEICO yesterday and it was a disaster. Things started off great but took a turn for the absurd. After meeting with HR, two team members, and the VP I had a meeting with the anal retentive team lead. The lead nailed me on three counts:
1. My GPA from college was actually 3.3 not *GASP* 3.4 as put in my resume (they made me bring my unofficial transcript).
2. I didn't mention I went to FDU. Why? Most employers don't care about your whole college history so long as you have a diploma.
3. I made a typo. I started at my current job in January 05, not 04.
So yes, I will readily admit those are goof ups. Were they put there intentionally to mislead anyone about my employment history or education? Of course not! Anyway, the team lead was real rude about the whole thing so after being escorted from the building I told him he was an asshole. I also wrote the VP of their IT department an email explaining what went down. Really, I'm glad things didn't work out. I don't think I would survive working for someone that rigid and uncouth.

| I really need to update this thing more. This entry is going to be semi-personal and only a little political. Today is my birthday and I'm 27 years old. Things ain't bad. The house is coming along nicely and the puppy is crazy (but adorable).
I had an argument with someone last night about a religious test for political office. His position was that our Constitution clearly states that there is no religious test to hold office; therefore, you can still run for office. My argument was who fucking cares what the Constitution says. While there is technically no religious test, the people have made one off the books. You cannot get elected in this country unless you blather on about jesus and god almighty. So while it's true you can run for office regardless of religion, you will never win unless you are a Christer. Sad, but true.

| This has to be one of the best op-ed's I have read in a long time (LINK). I found this op-ed to be so very appropriate for Memorial Day. I really fel for this guy. He lost his son to a war he opposoed and was brushed off by his very liberal Senators and representative. He is dead on when he talks about our politicians both Democratic and Republican. Both of them (and especially Bush) don't give two shits about the American public. Even more precise is when he pointed out that our government is run by big businesses and fundamentalists. To summarize: we are fucked.
